Washington Butler, who is from Puyallup Washington, was always fascinated with the arts. She was a performer in theater at her high school and also in community theater. When she moved to Los Angeles, she studied theater at the University of Southern California and performed as Belle the princess of Beauty and the Beast at Disneyland for a year and a quarter. Her decision to leave college was to locate an agent for talent, and started auditioning for films and television. Butler guest starred on The TV program CSI: Miami. The web-based series Luke 11-17, helmed by Don Stark, featured her in a role. Butler was the main character for I Spit on Your Grave (2010), which is a remake of a 1978 film that was a cult classic with exactly the same name. Although initially she was not a fan of the film's brutality and sexual violence, she came to accept the film's feminist tone as well as its strong character.
