Even a brilliant career can conceal the most tragic of tales. Lolo has achieved her present position after much struggle and patience. A single mother within a household of five children, Jones had a difficult and impoverished growing up. Her mother lived along the roads and in the cellar of a local church in the past. Jones was required to go to an entirely new high school every year because of her nomadic background. At Theodore Roosevelt High School, Jones was separated from her mother in order to pursue her interests in athletics. She stayed in four homes during her time in high school to ensure that she could attend all of her classes at one time. Jones was a cellist with the school's orchestra as well as recipient of the Gatorade Track and Field Iowa athlete of the year award was awarded the Gatorade Iowa Athlete Award towards the close of high school.
